Fayetteville, NC – TRP Sumner celebrated the expansion of their Fayetteville location with an  open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on June 9. The need for expansion came after TRP  Sumner was formed in 2020 through the merger of CPA firms TRP and McFadyen & Sumner.  They realized they needed more space to accommodate staff and operations in their Fayetteville  offices.

With an innovative solution, they purchased and added more than 6,000 square feet to a building at  2401 Robeson Street, thus creating the “Fayetteville Campus” along with their existing Robeson  Street office building.

TRP Sumner currently has 18 CPAs and a team of 80, counting seasonal staff at tax time. This  includes personnel in the Dunn office of TRP Sumner, who provide a full range of services for  clients in that area.

The June 9 event was more than a “bricks and mortar” celebration. Speaking to guests, Kelly  Puryear, Chief Executive Partner of TRP Sumner, noted that growth is indicative of success. “The secret to our success is our people,” Puryear stated. “We have many talented people at TRP  Sumner, and they have stayed true to the solid foundation and strong principles established by our  founders.” He introduced the founding partners – Burney Rivenbark, Joe Todd, David McFadyen  and Brent Sumner (still active as a partner at TRP Sumner) – who were all there to mark this  milestone for the firm they helped create.

Puryear also credited the firm’s clients for their role in TRP Sumner’s growth and success. “We  grow by helping them grow their business or personal financial wealth. We have many  entrepreneurial clients and clients with diverse financial and operational needs. They have  empowered us to expand the scope of services we provide,” he noted.

Partner Matthew Smith received special mention for his diligence in overseeing and managing all  phases of the building expansion. Fittingly, Smith was given the honor of cutting the ribbon.  Following the ribbon cutting, guests enjoyed refreshments and had the opportunity to tour the new  Campus facilities and speak with staff members on hand.

Serving clients in Cumberland, Harnett and surrounding counties, TRP Sumner is currently a Top 500 CPA firm in the nation. We provide a wide range of tax, accounting, and financial/advisory  services, including services that go beyond those traditionally provided by CPAs. With our robust  resources and deep talent pool, we are uniquely positioned to offer the extensive services normally  associated with larger, national firms, coupled with the personal relationship and attention of a local  firm.

Why It’s So Important When Choosing Your Company’s Payroll Service Provider! https://trpsumner.com/why-its-so-important-when-choosing-your-companys-payroll-service-provider/ Thu, 03 Sep 2020 20:30:56 +0000 https://trpsumner.com/?p=205690 WASHINGTON (Published by the Internal Revenue Service)The IRS reminded employers recently to carefully choose their payroll service providers following continuing concerns that some disreputable organizations can fail to deposit employment taxes, leaving businesses vulnerable to unpaid bills.

Many employers outsource their payroll and related tax duties to third parties. This streamlines business operations by collecting and timely depositing payroll taxes on the employer’s behalf and filing required payroll tax returns with state and federal authorities. Most third-party payroll services do a good job helping small businesses meet their deadlines and payroll obligations.

Like employers who handle their own payroll duties, employers who outsource payroll are in most instances still legally responsible for any and all payroll taxes due. This includes any federal income taxes withheld as well as both the employer and employee shares of Social Security and Medicare taxes. This is true even if the employer forwards tax amounts to the third party to make the required deposits or payments.

A business doing everything else right can suddenly find its future in doubt if it falls victim to an unscrupulous third party that fails to make the required payroll and withholding deposits. This is especially important right now as businesses face unique challenges because of the pandemic.

Employers should remember to watch out and do due diligence to help safeguard themselves – and their employees − from a payroll service provider failing to do what the law requires.

TRP Sumner offers our clients in-house, dedicated payroll services. Heather Godwin, leader of our Preferred Pay division and Client Accounting Services department, commented about our services by saying “We have been providing payroll services to our clients for over 15 years and have Certified Payroll Specialists on staff to answer any payroll related questions you may have to help you avoid costly payroll mistakes.”

If you have questions or concerns about your business payroll, give us a call at one of our three locations in Fayetteville and Dunn, NC. You may also go to our website at www.trpsumner.com and click on the Payroll Services tab to learn more about this service and other ways that TRP Sumner can help you beyond the tax return.

TRP Sumner Thanks Our Clients And Communities For Their Support! https://trpsumner.com/trp-sumner-thanks-our-clients-and-communities-for-their-support/ Mon, 27 Jul 2020 19:17:08 +0000 https://trpsumner.com/?p=205671 Let’s just say it…It has been a rough 2020 so far! Having gone through the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic, TRP Sumner is pausing and reflecting on the past several months and thinking about the future successes we believe will happen FOR US ALL going forward. As we go through this process, the first thing, and an especially important thing is to THANK YOU—our clients and the communities we serve. Your patience and understanding during this hectic, past few months has meant so much to us.

The past few months have been an unprecedented time for our firm and our clients. Having the virus hit during our busiest time of the year—tax season—and then immediately going into overdrive to help each client with the complexities of the CARES Act and other emergency relief legislation was incredible. Having said that, as an essential business, we would not have had it any other way. You are important to us and it was important to our firm to be here for you. Helping you navigate all the intricacies to keep your business afloat as well as keeping our clients and staff members safe was a huge priority for us. Being proactive with rapidly changing legislation is how we operate!

THANK YOU! Thank you everyone for working with us as we utilized our time and expertise advising you on the various important legislative business incentives. Keeping you updated on the latest emergency relief efforts for individuals, business owners and their employees was our focus. It was important to us to place our clients in the best position possible to weather this storm and come out intact on the other side. These efforts became personal for us. It is easy to stand beside people when times are good. We wanted all our clients to know that our firm stands beside them during the difficult, uncertain times as well.

In closing, if you need us, we are still here and available to advise you, answer your questions or help with your concerns. As we go through the next few months and you need help with the CARES Act or the PPP loan forgiveness process, don’t hesitate to call. We’ve got your back! And during times like this, we all need each other!
